But it.... wasn't.
Summary:
In this episode, the Doctor starts the episode off by making a hypothesis which (being the Doctor) he realizes he absolutely must prove. And he absolutely must have Clara with him to prove it. The Doctor theorizes that if evolution has created perfect hunters and perfect defense, then why not perfect hiders? He also theorizes that if such a creature existed, we wouldn't be aware of it because well... it hides. But what if somewhere in us, we knew when there really is something there... and so we talk to ourselves... and so when we talk to ourselves, we're not really talking to ourselves. What would such a creature do? Listen. He also observes that everyone in all of time and history has had the same dream. One where you wake up in the middle of the night terrified. You step out of bed, and a hand reaches out from underneath the bed and grabs your ankle.
The Doctor runs off into Clara's past to see what happened the night that Clara had that dream. Only problem? Somehow the TARDIS takes them to the night Danny had the dream. Not Clara.
Acting:
Love all the actors. Still not sure about Danny's character... But regardless, I think the actor plays him well.
Quality:
This episode felt like it really rushed Clara and Danny's relationship into existence. Like they're trying to hurry up and get it going before something else has to happen... It really hurt the portrayal of Danny's character (in my opinion.).
I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt, so we'll see what happens in later episodes.
Content Advisory:
Hm... I don't remember anything...
There's a bit where Danny is at dinner with Clara. She comments on how Danny went straight for dinner with their relationship (apparently they haven't done much together yet...) and he says he might go straight for desert. Clara's face indicates she's reading into this... I think Danny really meant desert as in food... he's an awkward character and he just says the wrong thing sometimes.
This episode was fairly creepy (it involves monsters hiding under your bed...), but *spoilerish alert* it resolves into something not creepy... *cough* Clara *cough*
The Rant Bit:
As I kinda hinted before, this episode gave us a lot of dreadful promises. Promises that we were about to be fully creeped out. However, the episode took a completely different turn and didn't fulfill those promises. Now, you could look on that thankfully or you could say "wow, what a great twist." and while both those things would be accurate... I was slightly annoyed.
From a post-episode perspective, I like this episode. I liked the Clara twist. However, from a pre-episode perspective, it didn't live up to expectations, because it lived up to different expectations. It's not a bad episode if you know where their going with it... it just is odd when you're watching it for the first time and it ends up being totally not creepy.
And now that we've discussed that... we can talk about this:
Danny. (Btw, he's wearing a pink shirt in this scene... never noticed that before.)
Oh Danny boy. What is it with this character that leaves me so undecided?
Danny's first episode was Into the Dalek. In my review, I said that I was pleasantly surprised that I sorta liked his character. He was awkward... and adorable... and... I don't know. I liked him.
In this episode... The Clara/Danny relationship goes from 0 to 60 and I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but to me, it was way too fast.
The Doctor drags Clara into the past and they run into little Danny... It was interesting... especially because Clara learns Danny's real name (Rupert Pink) and later accidently says it to Danny's face and he's rightly concerned because she shouldn't know that was his name. (Question: From a 'I've seen episode 8' perspective, does Danny know that Clara jumped into his past and future? Or did he just forget about her using his real name? Because he said if she lied to him once more they were gonna be finished... Yeah.)
Then the Doctor drags Clara into the future an they run into... Danny's great grandson... or something. This is where things get really interesting... The Doctor asks Clara if she's connected with Future Mr. Pink (His name is Orson) at all and Clara awkwardly remarks "How would I know?"...
Clara finds a little plastic army man in Orson's bag... (I forgot to mention it earlier, but when Clara is hanging with Little Danny, there's an army man that they name Dan...) and it's the same army man from little Rupert's bedroom. Orson tells her that it's a family heirloom type thing, and that one of his great grandparents was a time traveler. That's a bit crazy but then he gives it to her and she pushes it back saying "No, it's a family heirloom." Then Orson says with a knowing look on his face, "Exactly."
What that little scene gave us is this: If Danny ever time travels... even the tinest little bit... we know that Clara doesn't marry Danny. Because Orson told her that one of his grandparents time traveled. An interesting tidbit for future episodes.
Anyway, we get a Danny/Clara kiss and it makes me super uncomfortable... because like I said. This episode moved rather quickly for my taste.
That bit with Clara and Little Doctor and the end though... was kinda awesome. Especially when you realize that it's the same barn from Day of the Doctor. Clara is so awesome.
4 Fandom Points. I'm really curious to see what everyone else thought of this episode. I've heard that most people think it's the best episode in season 8... but... opinions?

"Let me tell you about scared. Your heart is beating so hard I can feel it through your hands. There's so much blood and oxygen pumping through your brain it's like rocket fuel. Right now you could run faster and you can fight harder. You can jump higher than ever in your life and you are so alert it's like you can slow down time.
What's wrong with scared? Scared is a superpower! Your superpower! There is danger in this room and guess what? It's you. Do you feel it? Do you think he feels it? Do you think he's scared? Nah. Loser!"
